Peridot Meaning

Picture this: ancient Egyptian pharaohs lounging on their golden thrones, donning lavish robes and adorned with vibrant green peridot stone. This is the age-old meaning that peridot holds through the history books; a stone that made a statement, in times when even social media wasn’t around to assist the process.

Peridot quartz was even revered in ancient times as the "gem of the sun". Believed to bring a myriad of benefits to the wearer, we’ll dive deeper into everything there is to know about these precious stones shortly.

What is Peridot?

Peridot, or peridotite, is simply a fabulous gemstone that exhibits a vibrant green hue, holding a sort of Mediterranean vacation vibe within its energy field. Peridot is a type of olivine mineral, born deep within the Earth's core and surfacing through volcanic eruptions.

Peridot Pronunciation

Peridot is pronounced either as "PAIR-uh-dough" or “PAIR-uh-dot." Whether you opt for the "dough" or "dot" ending is entirely up to your personal vocab or global location.

What does a Peridot Look Like?

Peridot is green and exquisite - there’s not much more to it than that. Its luscious color ranges from a lime green to a deeper olive hue, depending on conditions and inclusions at the time of formation.

What Color is Peridot?

As mentioned, peridot gems are known for their striking green color. They range from a light, refreshing green to much deeper hues, though very pale variations are available in some parts of the world.

Peridot Birthstone Meaning

Peridot is the birthstone for August, and for people born in this month, the gem is believed to symbolize strength, protection, and prosperity. A peridot birthstone is a fantastic unisex gift to give to anyone celebrating in this month, and jewelry is an easy choice!

Peridot is also associated with the zodiac sign Leo, which falls between July 23rd and August 22nd. Leo is known for its confident, happy-go-lucky nature, and peridot perfectly complements these traits. This gemstone is believed to enhance the Leo's courage, self-expression, and ability to attract success.

What is Peridot Used for?

Besides its metaphysical properties which we will dive into shortly, peridot crystal has various uses in different fields. In the jewelry industry, peridot is highly valued and is often used to make gorgeous necklaces, rings, earrings, and bracelets. It is also sometimes used as a healing and spiritual stone in crystal therapy and energy work.

Additionally, peridot even has some industrial applications. Its high refractive index makes it useful for creating optical lenses, and it is also utilized in the production of lasers and semiconductors - who knew?

How Rare is Peridot?

Peridot is considered a relatively rare gemstone. While it is not necessarily a scarce crystal and can be found in several locations around the world, high-quality peridot with intense color and clarity are not easy to find.

When to Wear Peridot Ring?

A ring containing peridot gemstone can be worn on various occasions, as it carries different meanings and energies. As we know, it is a fitting choice for anyone born in August, or anyone who holds the Leo star sign. Some feel that the vibrant green color of a peridot ring makes it most suitable for spring and summer events. That said, how cute is flashing a bright green ring at Christmas dinner?

Peridot Benefits

One major benefit of peridot is that it is a very durable gemstone with a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, making it suitable for everyday wear with little risk of decay or cracking. Furthermore, peridot is relatively affordable compared to other precious gemstones, making it accessible to a wider range of buyers.

Peridot Healing

Stay with us and we’ll soon list the full spectrum of metaphysical and physical benefits that peridot brings to the table. When it comes to healing, peridot can be used by anyone who feels drawn to its energy and properties.

However, it's important to note that peridot should not replace professional medical advice or treatment, but rather be used as a complementary tool in conjunction with appropriate healthcare practices.

Peridot Chakra

Peridot is associated with the heart chakra, which is the energy hub located in the center of the chest. It is believed to both stimulate and balance this energy center, promoting feelings of love and compassion to anyone who remains open to its influence.

By working in the heart chakra with peridot, one may enhance their ability to give and receive love, strengthen relationships, and open themselves to new possibilities in the romantic realm.

Where is Peridot Found?

Throughout peridot history, most of the world's supply has been sourced from a few locations, such as Myanmar, Pakistan, and Arizona. This scarcity of high quality deposits contributes to peridot's value and desirability in the gemstone market.

Arizona Peridot

Where to find peridot in Arizona? Peridot is found in the San Carlos Apache Reservation. More specifically, the Peridot Mesa in Arizona is known for its high quality deposits of peridot, which is the reason behind its name.

It’s important to note that access to the reservation and the peridot mining sites is restricted to the public, and permission to enter must first be obtained from the authorities before visiting.

Peridot in Hawaii

Peridot is also found in Hawaii, specifically on the island of Oahu. The beaches of Diamond Head and the Koolau Mountains are known to hold newly formed peridot crystals within their volcanic rocks. These crystals can also be found on the Big Island of Hawaii, where the Kilauea volcano has produced peridot-bearing lava flows for centuries.

Peridot in Myanmar

Peridot is indeed found in Myanmar, and specifically it’s the Mogok region that is particularly renowned for its deposits. The peridot crystals from this region are often highly valued in terms of quality, clarity, and strong color. The gemstone mines in Mogok have been an abundant source of peridot for decades, making Myanmar a significant player within the peridot market.

Peridot in Pakistan

Pakistan also offers peridot! The region of Gilgit-Baltistan, specifically in the valleys of Hunza and Shigar, is famous for producing high-quality peridot gemstones. In fact, Pakistani peridot is known for its rich, green color and excellent transparency, making it a go-to for collectors around the world.

Peridot Properties

One of the most interesting peridot facts is that it is not only found on Earth, but has also been discovered in outer space! Peridot has been found in meteorites that originated from Mars called "shergottites". This sheds some light on the true power of these stones, and what they can potentially offer in terms of both healing and metaphysical properties - let’s dive deeper!

Peridot Healing Properties

A significant portion of peridot symbolism is the way in which it interacts with the physical body and the healing properties it can offer. It is said to have a rejuvenating effect on the body, promoting overall vitality and restoration.

As we mentioned earlier, peridot is beneficial for the heart, and on a physical level can assist in regulating blood pressure and improving cardiovascular health. Additionally, peridot is able to relieve tension and ease migraines or headaches.

Peridot Metaphysical Properties

Peridot rock offers several metaphysical properties to those who are open to the experience. This is a stone of deep compassion, promoting kindness, empathy, and understanding. When peridot opens and activates that heart chakra, it calls forth emotional healing and positive relationships.

More magical properties of peridot include the bringing of abundance, prosperity, and success - which tie into the green color of the stone, the same color as money! Furthermore, peridot is believed to have a calming energy that alleviates stress and anxiety in the wearer.

Peridot vs Other Stones

Sometimes peridot can be confused or compared to other stones of similar nature or visual appeal. We’re going to take a closer look at the top three:

Peridot and Lapis

There are occasions where peridot takes on more of a blue hue, due to certain mineral inclusions. When this happens, peridot and lapis lazuli can be mistaken for one another due to these confusing colors. These are two very distinct gemstones with vastly different properties and compositions.

Lapis lazuli is a deep blue gemstone with flecks of pyrite and calcite. While they may share some visual similarities under the right circumstances, peridot and lapis' chemical compositions and overall appearances can help differentiate them.

Peridot vs Emerald

Confusing peridot for a green emerald is an easy mistake to make, but peridot is typically a brighter green gemstone, while emerald is known for its deep, rich green color with a bluish undertone.

They also differ in composition, with peridot being a type of olivine mineral and emerald belonging to the beryl family. In terms of clarity, peridot often contains visible flaws, while emeralds are known for their almost perfect transparency.

Peridot vs Olivine

Peridot and olivine are related terms when discussing gemstones. Olivine is a mineral group that includes various compositions, while peridot is a specific gemstone within the olivine family. Olivine typically refers to a group of greenish-yellow to olive-green minerals, and is a common component of volcanic rocks.

In short, olivine simply refers to the broader mineral group, while peridot is the specific gemstone within that group.

Peridot Types

Interestingly, there are no specific different types of peridot recognized within the gem industry. While peridot can display variation in color and clarity, there are no varying classifications or names for peridot beyond the umbrella term. One distinction we can make, however, is whether or not the stone is raw or polished:

Raw Peridot

Raw peridot refers to stones that have been extracted from the earth but have not yet undergone any cutting, polishing or refinement. They are in their natural, unprocessed state, showcasing the rough texture and appearance as they were found in their mineral form.

Peridot rough can vary in size, shape, and color, and are often sought after by collectors who appreciate the natural beauty of unprocessed gemstones.

Raw Peridot Meaning

Raw peridot holds the same meaning and properties as cut and polished peridot. It remains a stone of healing, renewal, and growth. Raw peridot can be used to bring balance and harmony into one's life, promoting a sense of vitality and well-being in the physical body, too!

Natural Peridot

Natural is another way one can refer to any rough or raw piece of peridot that has been taken from the ground and not yet enhanced or polished. Typically, natural peridot will soon undergo a range of treatments to get it to a state that jewelry designers and lapidaries will appreciate and pay top dollar for! This includes tumbling, faceting and polishing.

Peridot Color

As we’ve been saying, peridot typically occurs in various shades of green. That said, peridot can also exhibit variations within the color spectrum, although we must emphasize that this is incredibly uncommon. The color and tone of peridot is influenced by factors such as the iron content within the gemstone and its origin.

peridot

Green Peridot

The green color of peridot mineral is primarily attributed to the presence of iron within the crystal structure of the stone. Specifically, it is the presence of iron in the form of iron (II) that gives peridot a nice green hue. Peridot green is influenced by the presence of chromium, which can create a slight yellowish or olive-green tone.

Green Peridot Meaning

When it comes to crystal meanings and peridot powers, color dictates a lot! Green is often associated with nature and the cycles of growth and renewal, which is why peridot’s green color can be used to call in new beginnings, fresh energy, and personal growth.

Green is also considered a color of healing and balance. Peridot, in turn, offers a calming, soothing energy, bringing harmony to the mind, body, and spirit. In some cultures, green is very much a symbol of wealth and abundance. As mentioned, peridot is thus associated with attracting prosperity and fostering success in financial endeavors!

Pale Green Peridot

Sometimes peridot is pale; So pale, in fact, that one can question its green hue altogether! Pale green peridot is caused by the presence of too little iron in the crystal structure at the time of formation.

Pink Peridot

Pink peridot is an uncommon and rare variation of this stone family. Under very unlikely circumstances, pink peridot can either occur due to trace amounts of manganese in the Earth, or can result from heat treatments intended to enhance the color. Natural pink peridot is quite rare, and most available on the market are likely to be mislabeled or misidentified stones.

Yellow Peridot

Yellow peridot is also caused by the levels of iron in the crystal structure. However, it is actually the specific type of iron that determines the color variation within the yellow range. The intensity and hue of yellow peridot can vary, with some stones appearing pale yellow and others exhibiting a more vibrant sun-like yellow color.

Blue Peridot

Blue peridot is actually quite rare and is caused by additional trace impurities that blend with the iron in the earth, and these impurities include chromium & vanadium. Essentially they interact with the mineral's composition and crystal lattice, resulting in the development of a blue hue.

Brown Peridot

Brown peridot is caused by an extremely high amount of iron impurities in the crystal compared to other colors of the stone Usually, a balanced amount of iron gives peridot its characteristic green color, but when the iron content spikes, it can result in a brownish tone instead, forming what some refer to as dark peridot.

Red Peridot

Red peridot causes common misconception within the crystal industry. True peridot does not naturally occur in red under any circumstances. That which we confuse for red peridot is actually another mineral called garnet. Sometimes, garnet is mistakenly labeled or sold as red peridot, leading to confusion.

Purple Peridot

Similarly, peridot itself does not naturally occur in shades of purple. However, there are several gemstones that can resemble purple peridot. One such gemstone is amethyst, which is a type of quartz and is known for its purple color. Sometimes amethyst is sold off as purple peridot to unassuming buyers who aren’t too familiar with these stones.

Peridot Jewelry

Peridot is a fabulous stone for jewelry makers, mostly owing to the fact that it has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, which means the crystal is relatively durable and suitable for everyday wear.

This hardness makes it resistant to scratches and prevents it from easily getting damaged during jewelry making or regular use. Think about how many times a day you accidentally smack your rings into things…

peridot

Peridot Ring

Peridots are striking stones, especially when you glimpse them on the finger of someone nearby. They catch and refract light in the way a sapphire or emerald might, while costing a fraction of the price of these precious stones.

From a spiritual perspective, wearing peridot on your fingers can bring through the benefits that the stone offers for meditation, introspection and self-inquiry. The hands are considered portals during spiritual work, so any stones on or in them are going to provide great benefit.

Peridot Engagement Ring

Looking for something outside the traditional diamond engagement ring? Peridot your be an option on your list! The green color of most peridot symbolizes love, compassion, and harmony - all things that anyone would be lucky to bring into a marriage.

Peridot engagement rings are more affordable compared to diamonds, making them an accessible option that doesn’t compromise on beauty or quality.

Peridot Wedding Ring

Let’s be honest, we all expect wedding rings to withstand the test of time. A weak stone or shoddy welding job can be a bad omen for any couple, so investing in something worthwhile is the aim of the game.

These meaningful stones are not only durable, but they also represent the deep emotional connection and harmony between partners embarking on a lifelong journey.

Peridot Wedding Ring Set

A peridot wedding ring set typically refers to a collection of matching rings that are designed and worn together as a symbol of a couple's union in marriage. The set usually consists of the two rings described above: an engagement ring and a wedding band.

The engagement ring in a peridot wedding ring set would feature a peridot gemstone as the centerpiece, typically set in a metal band and often adorned with diamonds or other accent stones for added beauty and sparkle. The wedding band in the set is typically a simpler ring that is meant to be worn alongside the engagement ring.

Peridot Men's Ring

Throughout history, peridot was never a stone that was labeled as distinctly male or female. It’s always had a unisex energy to it, which has made it very popular within men’s jewelry collections. Peridot men's rings tend to have a masculine and contemporary appeal, often featuring bold, robust designs.

Vintage Peridot Rings

Some of the most unique peridot rings are going to be found in your neighborhood vintage store. Vintage peridot rings often showcase intricate craftsmanship, ornate detailing, and unique settings that were popular in the bygone eras in which they were created.

Peridot Stackable Ring

A peridot stackable ring is a type of ring designed to be worn along with other rings on the same finger, creating that layered look that is currently quite the trend. Stackable rings are typically thin and versatile, usually made with a single peridot gemstone or multiple smaller peridot stones set in a band.

Peridot Cocktail Ring

Cocktail rings are designed to make a statement, and are often saved exclusively for social events and parties. Peridot is a great stone for any cocktail ring, as it is considered a statement crystal and is a great conversation starter.

Did you know that peridot was first discovered around 1500 BC on an island in the Red Sea, known today as Zabargad? Something to talk about!

Gold Peridot Ring

Peridot is easily complimented by any metal, but yellow gold in particular seems to make all green stones shine that much brighter. Gold is a durable precious metal that can withstand the test of time, just like peridot.

Raw Peridot Ring

Rings can also be made using the raw, uncut form of the peridot gemstone. Unlike traditional cut and polished gemstones, raw peridot offers an organic and earthy look, often with jagged edges and an uneven surface.

This isn’t everyone’s taste, but if your style is complemented by more rustic pieces, then look into these variations.

Peridot Halo Ring

Basically, a peridot halo ring is one that features a larger peridot stone surrounded by a halo of smaller accent stones. These accent stones can be diamonds or any other precious gemstones, including sapphires or garnets.

Natural Peridot Ring

A natural peridot ring is the same as a raw peridot ring; Stones that have not undergone the polishing or resurfacing processes and still hold their rough appeal. Wearing a natural peridot ring allows one to appreciate the genuine beauty of the crystal in its purest form.

Celtic Peridot Ring

Celtic rings are reflected through very specific design elements. Celtic designs include intricate knotwork, spirals, crosses, and other symbolic motifs. When incorporated into a peridot ring, these Celtic elements add an additional layer of symbolism and cultural significance for the wearer, and you’ll often find that these individuals are interested in mystical practices such as wicker.

Peridot Necklace

Given that peridot is a stone that works with the heart center, it makes most sense to wear it around the neck in order to anchor the benefits into this area. As we know, a peridot necklace is a great gift for anyone born in August, or under the sign of Leo.

Gold Peridot Necklace

You already know we’re fans of the peridot-gold combo, and there is also great benefit in having the gold mineral near the heart and throat chakras! Gold, with its warm and radiant hue, is believed to have a calming and soothing effect on emotions and helps open and expand the energy of the heart.

Silver Peridot Necklace

Gold aside, silver is naturally a stunning companion to any green crystal, and remains a popular choice for jewelry due to its versatility. Silver, as a metal, is associated with intuition, emotional balance, and the moon. It is believed to help enhance the energy of crystals and promote a sense of calm and clarity.

Peridot Beads Necklace

Peridot beads come in various sizes and shapes, and they can be uniform or have natural variations in color and texture. Since beaded necklaces require multiple stones, they are generally made with peridot offcuts or less valuable specimens.

Peridot Earrings

If you really want to stop traffic, peridot earrings are the way to do it. This is a great way to get the spiritual properties of the stone into the upper chakras, namely the third eye and crown. The metals used to make peridot earrings can also have a balancing effect on the body’s energy fields.

Peridot Pendant

A peridot pendant is a great piece to acquire, as crystal pendants can generally double as both necklace charms and pendulum stones. In pendulum form, a peridot pendant attached to a chain or string will allow it to swing freely for the purpose of divination.

Large Peridot Pendant

If the peridot pendant is large enough, it can be used during meditation. These pendants can be held in the palm of the hand during meditative practices in order to call forth particular healing modalities that the crystal possesses.

Alternatively, large peridot pendants make for fabulous sun-catchers suspended in your windows, and refract light through the house.

Raw Peridot Pendant

Depending on your personal style, you may prefer a raw piece of peridot for your pendant. Not everyone is into the polished, faceted look, so something more rugged and Earthy, like raw peridot, can be substituted within the pendant setting.

Peridot Uses

Outside of jewelry, birthstones and spirituality, peridot can also be used in the home for the purpose of Feng Shui. In the Feng Shui realm, peridot is considered to be a stone that attracts abundance and prosperity into the home space. It can be used in houses or office spaces to promote this positive energy flow and wealth.

In addition, peridot can also be used as a centerpiece or accent in art pieces or sculptures.

Peridot Beads

Peridot beads are made through a process called bead cutting or faceting. The cut peridot pieces are shaped into a roughly desired sphere-like shape. A hole is then drilled through the center of the piece using a specialized lapidary drill bit. This hole allows the beads to be threaded onto a string or wire for jewelry-making purposes.

Peridot beads may go through a final round of polishing using a high-grade compound or diamond paste to bring out their natural luster and shine. This step ensures a smooth and reflective surface, which many bead-lovers prefer.

Raw Peridot Beads

Those who don’t prefer shiny beads will likely opt for raw peridot variations. Raw peridot beads, also known as nugget beads or chip beads, are made using a different process compared to the ones we mentioned above.

Rough peridot is still carefully shaped to achieve more uniform dimensions, but they are not as precisely shaped as regular peridot beads. Sometimes, tumbling the beads in a tumbler with abrasive materials such as sand is the chosen technique for the raw bead look.

Peridot Glass

Peridot glass is a man-made imitation material that is designed to mimic the appearance of the natural peridot gemstone. It is a type of synthetic glass that is created in a factory using various techniques. It goes without saying that this glass is not a genuine gemstone and thus cannot possess the same physical and chemical properties as natural peridot.

Peridot Sphere

A peridot sphere is often used as a decorative item in homes or offices. However, in crystal healing and meditation practices, peridot spheres are believed to offer certain metaphysical benefits to the user, many of which we listed earlier.

Placing a peridot sphere in certain areas of a home or office is also said to bring positive energy and good fortune, via the principles of Feng Shui.

Peridot Cleansing

Peridot is by no means a self-cleansing crystal, so you’ll need to put some regular effort into cleaning and rebalancing it. Some ways to do this include rinsing the peridot stone under cool, running water for a few minutes. You could also hold it under a natural water source like a stream or waterfall, if you have access to one!
Saltwater is another great cleansing method for peridot.

Submerge the stone in a bowl of lukewarm water mixed with sea salt. Leave it soaking for a few hours or overnight. Or if water isn’t your preference, then try smudging! Simply pass the crystal through the smoke of sacred herbs like sage, palo santo, or cedar.

Peridot Price

As mentioned, peridot is generally considered to be an affordable gemstone compared to others of similar nature. However, the cost of peridot will vary depending on certain factors, including the quality of the stone, color, size, and origin.

How Much is Peridot Worth?

The price of peridot is primarily influenced by its color and clarity. High-quality peridot stones with intense green color, good transparency, and minimal inclusions tend to be more valuable and, thus, more expensive.

Likewise, peridot gems that have a lighter green color or more visible inclusions will be more affordable.

Peridot Value per Carat

As a general guideline, peridot ranges in price from anywhere between $50 to $400 per carat. It's important to note that these are merely approximate values, and the actual price will be higher or lower based on the specific characteristics of the stone in question.

Peridot Price per Gram

Like diamonds, peridot is typically priced and sold per carat rather than per gram. Carat weight is the standard unit of measurement for gemstones, with 1 carat equaling to 0.2 grams. As mentioned above, the price of peridot will vary depending on the following factors: quality, color, clarity, size, cut, and origin.

To calculate a peridot price by gram, you would just need to divide the per carat price by 5 (as there are 5 carats in a gram). However, we wish to emphasize that peridot is not commonly priced or sold per gram in the gemstone market.

Where to Buy Peridot

Depending on where you live, authentic peridot can usually be purchased from various sources, including jewelry stores, gemstone dealers, online retailers, and gemstone trade shows. Because of the high-value nature of these crystals, they are not necessarily ones that you’ll be able to buy from your neighborhood crystal shop or esoteric stores, unless they are very raw, unpolished stones.

Peridot Earrings at Walmart

While Walmart usually has a fair inventory of crystal jewelry on offer, peridot earrings at Walmart are an unlikely find. You’re better off taking a look at more itemized retailing sites where independent sellers can list their own products, such as Amazon, which we will dive further into below!

Peridot Jewelry on Amazon

Amazon is a fantastic hub on which to shop for peridot jewelry of all kinds. Sellers from around the world can list their products at competitive rates, and the best part about shopping on Amazon is the very transparent reviews section through which you can weed out the real from the fakes.

Never buy any peridot jewelry on Amazon unless there are reputable reviews that authenticate the seller and the products!

Peridot Rings on Amazon

Amazon has an abundance of peridot rings on offer. On average, peridot rings can range from around $20 to $500 or more. Again, read the reviews and take great care in selecting a seller who has clearly been authenticated by the public!

Peridot Earrings on Amazon

At the time of writing, Amazon offers a wide variety of peridot earrings in different styles, sizes, and prices. From simple stud earrings, to more elaborate designs featuring diamonds or other gemstones, and even some vintage pieces that have made their way onto the platform!

Peridot Bracelet on Amazon

In general, it’s never easy to find good quality peridot bracelets on the market, so it’s been very refreshing to see more and more jewelry-sellers taking to the Amazon platform to push their products. From beaded bracelets, to tennis-style and charms, there are peridot varieties to suit all tastes and budgets.

Try selecting a seller who offers a warranty on the piece in question — bracelets are delicate pieces and if the quality is in any way not up to standard, they can break easily.

Peridot on eBay

eBay is another platform where independent jewelry sellers have begun selling high-quality peridot at competitive rates. From finished jewelry to loose stones, this is where you can really source the perfect cut. A lot of people use eBay to find the perfect loose cut peridot that they can buy, and then take to their local jewelry to set into their dream piece.

Like with Amazon, always remember to check the product details carefully, and vet the reputation of the seller before making a purchase.

Peridot Beads for Sale

Buying peridot beads is a great way to DIY your own jewelry pieces at home. You can find peridot beads for sale on all of the main online platforms, including Etsy, eBay, and other small-business bead suppliers.

It helps to get really clear on what you’re looking for before starting your search. For example, do you want faceted beads? Rondelle beads? There are so many varieties, and options for all budgets. Happy shopping!

Rough Peridot for Sale

As we know, raw or rough peridot refers to stones that have been extracted from the earth but have not yet undergone any cutting, polishing or refinement. They are in their natural, unprocessed state, which is a high preference for some buyers!

If rough peridot is what you’re looking for, simply head to any of the retail sites we’ve mentioned above, and enter the keyword “raw” or “rough” in your search. This will bring up options to match, and exclude all of the more refined cuts.

Arizona Peridot for Sale

If you are specifically looking for Arizona peridot to buy, there are a few ways to hunt it down. The first option is to buy direct from either the Peridot Mesa or the Four Peaks Mine. They may only deal with wholesale buyers at this time, but it is worth a try if there is a specific piece of peridot that you are pining over!

Alternatively, eBay, Amazon and all of the other main e-commerce platforms will be able to return Arizona peridot search results if you include this specification in your search bar.

Raw Peridot for Sale

The best way to procure raw peridot is to go direct. Attending a gem and mineral show in your local area or internationally is pretty much a sure thing when it comes to sourcing raw cuts of quality peridot.

In some cases, you may even be able to bypass the shows and instead purchase raw peridot directly from miners themselves. This can be done by contacting relevant gemstone mining operations in regions known for peridot production, such as Arizona or Pakistan.

Pakistan Peridot for Sale

Pakistan is one of the top peridot destinations on the planet, and the specimens from this land are highly sought after, whether it’s by collectors or simply individuals looking for the perfect engagement stone.

To buy Pakistani peridot, it is generally best to contact gemstone mining operations in Pakistan, who can then give you the opportunity to purchase stones directly. Alternatively, eBay is an option if you’d like to buy online!

How to Identify a Real Peridot

Since peridot glass is a very real problem within the mineral market, it can be helpful to know how one can identify real peridot from the fakes. Peridot, as we know, typically has a distinctive green color. It should not have a strong brown or gray undertone, and any indication of this can reveal glass that has been treated. Similarly, natural peridot may have some inclusions, but too many visible flaws or cloudiness may indicate a synthetic stone.

If you want to get really technical, you can use a refractometer to measure the refractive index of a peridot. The refractive index of peridot typically falls between 1.650 and 1.690. If the reading is significantly different, it may not be a genuine peridot. If you don’t have access to a refractometer, you can also place the peridot on a printed text. When viewed through the stone, you should see a doubled image, because peridot is doubly refractive, which means it splits light into two rays.

Peridot Engagement Rings on Etsy

Times are changing, and traditional engagement rings that feature only a diamond are no longer the talk of the town. More people are looking for unique designs and stones that don’t fit the traditional mold, and peridot has made it onto that list.

Etsy has become a fantastic hub for engagement ring shopping, as jewelry designers from around the world can list the more non-traditional styles here. In fact, most things on Etsy are non-traditional, and more in line with trends, modern taste and street style.

Macys Peridot Necklace

A while back, Macys added a signature peridot necklace to their line, and customers fell in love. Since then, the department store has made a point of having some form of peridot for sale at any given time of the year, allowing customers to access quality, certified-authentic stones in a convenient setting.

This is peace of mind for people who are maybe not all that comfortable with e-commerce platforms and bidding wars, and are happy just to pop into their department store to grab their peridot!
